Fayez Kazi Founder & CEO, Hexah Portfolio of Companies Fayez Kazi is an architectural/civil engineer, urban planning expert, houser, and serial entrepreneur recognized for his leadership in shaping Austin’s built environment. He is the Founder and CEO of multiple vertically integrated companies in his portfolio called Hexah, including Civilitude Engineers & Planners, Capital A Housing, Constructinople, Urbinden, and Plantiquity. Together, these firms deliver affordable housing, public infrastructure, schools, commercial and mobility projects that embody his vision of creating connected and complete communities. Since launching Civilitude in 2010, Fayez has grown Hexah into one of Austin’s most innovative development ecosystems. Under his leadership, Capital A Housing has become the city’s largest affordable housing developer in just four years, with hundreds of units under construction in partnership with nonprofits such as SAFE Alliance, Integral Care, and LifeWorks. His work has been recognized through the City of Austin Distinguished Service Award, Austin Business Journal Fast 50, Longhorn 100, and as a 40 Under 40 nominee. Beyond business, Fayez has been a civic leader and educator. He served as Chair of the Austin Planning Commission, guiding the rewrite of the city’s Land Development Code to advance equity, affordability, and mobility. As a Zero Waste Commissioner, he contributed to Austin’s Zero Waste Master Plan, particularly around construction waste recycling and circular economy practices. He also taught as an Associate Professor at the University of Texas at Austin from 2001 to 2021, mentoring future engineers, several of whom are now leaders at Hexah. Fayez’s entrepreneurial vision was formally recognized when Austin Mayor Steve Adler proclaimed November 1, 2022, as “Hexah Day”, declaring “this is the organization that the most innovative ideas around solving affordable housing are coming from.” His creative efforts include Hexahpoly, a board game that reimagines Monopoly for Austin by tying housing, subsidies, and mobility into a lesson in community collaboration. Through business, policy, and education, Fayez has remained committed to building sustainable, inclusive, and affordable communities — values that make him a uniquely Austin entrepreneur and a driving force in reimagining what urban development can be.
